TALL, DOUG AND HANDSOME
Tall, Doug and Handsome | Traditional Territory of the Pacheedaht First Nation
One is struck by the majesty of this iconic old growth douglas fir, the Big Lonely Doug. This tree was spared serendipitously of the cutting saw in a forest clear cut adjacent the Gordon River, which lies within the traditional territory of the Pacheedaht First Nation on what we now call Vancouver Island.
This resulting portrait is a stunning representation of the natural beauty of what used to be a thriving, bio-diverse eco-habitat and is a testament to the importance of preserving the last stands of ancient old growth forests on Vancouver Island and throughout the Cascadia bio-diverse region.
